Vito Dagnello is President of the 870 member Suffolk County Correction Officers Association (SCCOA) located in New York. SCCOA represents all Correction Officer Ranks from Correction Officer I to Warden within the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office. SCCOA is also the second largest law enforcement union in the county which has a population of over one and a half million people. Vito began his career as a Correction Officer in 1983 and was elected to his first union position just seven years later as the SCCOA’s Second Vice President. From his first union position he became a key member of SCCOA’s Executive Board and was elected by the membership to First Vice President. After serving two terms as First Vice President he was elected President in 2003. Vito has recently been re-elected President for another four year term. Vito’s vast knowledge, sound judgment, strong leadership abilities and consistent handling of situations with poise, understanding and tact have earned him the respect not only of his peers in Correction Unions throughout New York State but also of Elected Officials within the County and State. New York’s statewide United Correction Officers Coalition (UCOC) was started 13 years ago because of Vito’s efforts as one of the founding fathers. The formation of this organization brought County Correction Officers from all over New York together to share ideas, help each other with labor bargaining, discuss mutual concerns and to band the brotherhood into a close knit group. Vito serves as Chairman of UCOC. Vito is also involved on a national level as President of the American Correctional Officer. This organization represents Correction Officers across the nation and speaks on their behalf on a Federal level. |
